New rooftop solar installation cuts carbon footprint at flagship lab, extending WESTPAK’s long-standing commitment to helping clients engineer more sustainable packaging.
SAN JOSE, Calif. — September 17, 2026 — WESTPAK, Inc., a leading third-party independent testing laboratory serving the medical device, pharmaceutical, and high-tech industries, announced the completion of a new solar photovoltaic system atop its flagship testing facility at 83 Great Oaks Blvd. in San Jose, California. The installation, developed in partnership with Solar Gain, will offset a significant portion of the facility’s electricity use with clean, on-site renewable energy.
The new system is expected to generate more than 660,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually — supplying over half of the San Jose lab’s total power needs and meaningfully reducing the facility’s reliance on the regional grid. The project reflects WESTPAK’s broader commitment to operating responsibly while continuing to deliver the rigorous, accredited testing its clients depend on.
The solar investment builds on WESTPAK’s 40-year legacy of helping manufacturers bring safe, reliable, and increasingly sustainable products to market. Through its dedicated sustainability testing services, WESTPAK partners with clients to evaluate how their packages that are more recyclable, biodegradable, and more durable – reducing material waste and environmental impact without compromising product protection. By generating its own clean power, WESTPAK now extends that same sustainability ethic to its own operations.

WESTPAK’s San Jose laboratory is one of the company’s three testing facilities, offering package, distribution, environmental, reliability, and cold chain testing accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by A2LA. The solar installation is part of the company’s continued investment in its California operations, following recent expansions of its testing capacity across its San Jose, San Diego, and Union City locations.
